Cavendish University Zambia Council and Management are pleased to announce the confirmation of Professor Justice Phillip Musonda as Vice Chancellor, effective 01 October 2026.
Professor Justice Musonda joined CUZ in February 2020 as a Senior Lecturer in the School of Law and was subsequently appointed Director of Postgraduate Studies and Research in August 2020. In September 2023, he was promoted to Professor of Laws. Professor Justice Musonda was appointed Acting Vice Chancellor in May 2026,
An accomplished legal scholar and jurist, Professor Justice Musonda brings over 35 years of experience in the judiciary, both locally and internationally. He has served as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Zambia and as a part-time Justice of the Court of Appeal in the Kingdom of Lesotho. His distinguished career also includes professional engagements with courts in the United States, the United Kingdom, India, and South Africa.
In addition to his judicial contributions, Professor Justice Musonda has over three decades of academic experience, including teaching and supervising postgraduate students. He has published scholarly work and remains an influential voice in Southern Africa’s legal and academic communities.
Professor Justice Musonda will continue to focus on implementing CUZ’s strategic plan and advancing the University’s vision of building a new model for higher education in Africa.
Professor Justice Musonda holds an LLB from the University of Zambia, a Master of Laws in International Business from the University of London, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Constitutionalism. He is a member of several professional bodies and a former President of the Commonwealth Judges and Magistrates Association (Zambian Branch).
