Immigration

According to section 26 of the Zambian Immigration and Deportation Act, No. 8 of 2010, an international student who intends to study and reside in Zambia should apply for a study permit. The applicant must first be accepted by the University on academic grounds before they may apply for a study permit. The applicant should enter the country once the permit has been granted. However, this exempts applicants that have ordinarily been resident in Zambia or is a refugee at the time of the application.

Applications should be lodged with the Head Office of Zambia Immigration Lusaka or through the Agency of the Zambian Mission in their Republic or Monarch. To obtain further guidance, students are urged to visit the Immigration website at https://www.zambiaimmigration.gov.zm/.

According to Section 26(3) of the Act, an educational institution has an obligation to certify to the immigration authorities that there is a guarantee that the study fees shall be paid and that the student has means to support themselves. In this regard, students who give proof of such financial minimums to CUZ will be assisted with a letter of guarantee which they can use for purposes of the application for the study permit. Except as provided herein, no student shall be allowed to undergo Semester Registration if such student does not have a valid study permit.
