The School of Medicine (SoM) is the newest faculty at the CUZ and it has been approved as a training centre for Medical doctors under Section 33 (2) of the Health Professions Act. The School will commence with offering the following:
- Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MB ChB)
- Bachelor of Nursing & Midwifery Sciences (B.N.Mw. Sc)
- Bachelor of Clinical Sciences (B.C.Sc)
- Masters of Public Health (Global Health) (MPH)
- Medicine Health Sciences Foundation (MHSF)
The Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) formerly Medical Council of Zambia, has approved Cavendish University Zambia School of Medicine (CUZ SoM) as a training institution offering Programmes for medical Practitioners. In a letter written to the institution, the Registrar of HPCZ Dr M. Zulu confirmed that CUZ has been granted a Provisional License, to deliver Medical Degrees and other related Programmes.
The approval follows an inspection, by the HPCZ officials on the CUZ SoM Munali Campus Premises, in accordance with the Health Professions Act. No 24 of 2009 of the Laws of Zambia. CUZ Deputy Vice Chancellor in Charge of Administration and also the Dean of Medical School– Professor Sekelani Banda explained that CUZ now has legal permission to train doctors.
“The graduates of CUZ can register with the Health Professions Council of Zambia, which is a legal requirement to practice medicine in Zambia” he said.
He further elaborated that CUZ medical graduates will be eligible for employment by the Ministry of Health and other employers if they are registered by HPCZ.
Prof. S. Banda also confirmed that the current Number of Programmes is not exhaustive as formalities for other legislative procedures for additional programmes are being finalised with relevant authorities.
