INTAKE: JANUARY / JULY (Full-time, direct and post-registration)

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE:

The Masters of Public Health (global health) programme is a two-year programme offered by the School of Medicine for medical officers who have completed their internship and other degree level health care professionals.  The course includes didactic course work, public health practicum and mentored research, the latter resulting in a thesis.

The two-year curriculum follows the modular and credit system and includes a full-time and part-time course management system, which has features to facilitate and enrich face-to-face as well as distance learning.  To qualify for award of the MPH, whether completed full-time or part-time, participants are required to complete a total of 8 modules (5 core modules and 3 elective modules) and a research dissertation.  The modules and the practicum will run, sometimes concurrently, for 12 months. Each module will run for 4 weeks and the practicum will run for 16 weeks.  The last 12 months are dedicated for the development of the research proposal, completion of the research, and the writing of the dissertation.  The research component can only be completed after satisfactory completion of all the 8 modules. Ideally the course should be completed in 24 months. However, course participants may have up to 48 months to complete the course.  Participants may sign up for individual modules without seeking the MPH qualification and receive a letter indicating that they participated in the individual module(s).

Core Modules:

  • The Fundamentals of Global Health
  • Introduction to Applied Research in Global Health
  • Project Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation
