REQUIREMENTS

O-Levels

Credit Pass

Examinations Council of Zambia School Certificate

Five O levels including biology, chemistry, physics or mathematics, and English with a full School certificate at O’ level.

Pre-Medical Year at Other Universities

Candidates who have successfully completed the pre-medical year (s) in biology, chemistry, and mathematics or physics at other recognised universities.

Graduate Entry

Science graduates normally need to have graduated within a five-year period at the time of application.

FOR ENTRY INTO PHASE 2

Candidates with Diploma in Nursing (Upper Class) and have served for at least three years. Registered with the General Nursing Council of Zambia (or in respective country)
ECZ School Certificate (As above).  

Candidates admitted in this category may get exemptions from Phase 1 and Phase 3 Junior Practicum provided they have passed the Biomedical Admissions Test (BMAT). However, candidates hoping to upgrade to the medicine (MB ChB) programme must complete the Medicine Health Sciences Foundation (MHSF) programme WITHOUT exception.

 

PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION: Nursing & Midwifery is a unique profession, now more broadly defined as both an art and a science. In today’s challenging healthcare environment, the qualified, professional nurse midwife combines knowledge (theory), skill (practice), attitude (professionalism), creativity and intuition to tend the sick, comfort the grieving and support the desolate.

INTAKE: JULY (Full-time, direct and post-registration)

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE:

CUZ B.N.Mw Sc curriculum is divided into three phases i.e., Phase 1 (Medicine Health Sciences Foundation for three semesters), Phase 2 (Biomedical, Nursing & Midwifery Sciences Didactic Block for 2 semesters) and Phase 3 (Nursing Practicum – junior & senior practicum each for 2 semesters). Together the Curriculum engages the student for a total of 120 Weeks (Phase 1 = 36 weeks; Phase 2 = 28 weeks; Phase 3, junior practicum = 28 weeks, senior practicum = 28 weeks).
